Confusion surrounds small business rate relief, says FSB
The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has called for a more cohesive approach to promoting the government's rate relief scheme for small businesses.
In news that may interest people in sales jobs, FSB spokesperson March Shoffman commented that there is confusion surrounding who is responsible for promoting the scheme, with the government placing the burden on local authorities, despite government agencies being expected to perform part of this role.
"Given the current economic downturn we believe that there's an onus on all government agencies that collect money from small businesses to highlight any opportunity for small businesses not to pay so much tax," he said.
According to Mr Shoffman, small business rate relief should automatically be applied to ratepayer's bills without the need for an application.
The Telegraph recently reported that some £200 million has remained unclaimed by small businesses each year, since the scheme was launched in 2005.
