Work experience 'prepares' for sales jobs

New research shows work experience is the most effective way of preparing school leavers for sales jobs, a source says.

The b-live survey, which asked 850 schools and employers their opinions, finds nearly three-quarters believe first-hand experience is the "most effective" way of making people employable, Onrec.com reports.

Managing director of b-live Tania Kuveljuc claims employers need to engage more with schools if young people are to be prepared for sales jobs or other careers.

She says the way careers are taught needs to be updated to give school-leavers "realistic expectations" of the world of work.

Poor communication between businesses and teenagers is a problem, Ms Kuveljuc notes.

By improving this, she claims it will give people a "better insight" into what will be required by employers for areas such as sales jobs.

Less than one in five companies say they provide enough work experience at the moment, the survey reveals.

The National Council for Work Experience claims a scheme offers the company "new ideas and fresh enthusiasm".
