Economy to improve 'during next year'

The current recession and recruitment prospects in the UK are likely to improve as 2009 comes to an end, it has been claimed.

Mark Parker, executive chairman at Talkbiznow.com, predicted the economy will reach its lowest point during next year.

He added: "As we come out of next year into 2010 hopefully we will see an improvement in the economy and the marketplace coming, not necessarily to where it was, but improving and getting better."

Mr Parker went on to say measures taken by the government and the Bank of England will help the economy begin to recover within two years.

Figures released earlier this month by the Office for National Statistics indicated the employment rate for people of working age was 74.2 per cent for the three months to October 2008, down 0.4 both from the previous quarter and over the year - the lowest rate since the three month period to February 2000.
