Prepare yet be spontaneous, job interviewees told

Jobseekers should strike the correct balance between preparation and spontaneity in order to be successful at interviews, it has been claimed.

According to Clare Shuttlewood, a sales manager currently looking for work, it is not always necessary to prepare a script of answers before meeting prospective employers.

Writing for Kenilworth Weekly News, she said: "I think I over-prepared for one interview and instead of giving answers from my head … as a result I came across as giving well-rehearsed answers rather than genuine ones."

She went on to recommend thinking through the detail behind CVs, so that questions regarding the information they contain can be answered naturally.

Ms Shuttlewood added that key questions for employers should be written down beforehand so that candidates are not left with regrets regarding missed opportunities.

Earlier this week, background screening provider HireRight claimed the two most common lies told by job candidates are exaggerating the dates of past employment and falsifying the result of a degree or qualification.
