Qualifications are the key when it comes to looking for a job, it has been claimed.

According to Steven Harris, director of education at professional body the Association of Business Executives, people who have sector-specific qualifications or even academic certifications, such as undergraduate or master's degrees, have an advantage over jobseekers who do not.

"You've acquired certain knowledge, certain background from your qualifications," he added.

"They are important and they will always be important because they are your starting point."

Earlier this week, internet services provider SeekBroadband.com claimed IT qualifications are vital to help people in the UK prepare for a digital future.

Commenting on the Digital Britain Summit which took place on April 17th at the British Library, the group stated that persuading computer users to get online will be a big challenge for the government.
