Students should be career-focused pre-graduation
Students planning on pursuing sales jobs should think about how to make themselves employable from the first day they enter university, it has been claimed.
According to marketing group Expansion Plus, this can be done effectively by carefully selecting summer or part-time employment.
"Being a lifeguard may give a student a great sun tan but it is going to be ignored when applying for a starting management position at a high-tech company," the group added.
The company went on to comment that in the current economic climate, potential employers are looking for staff who can do the job without extensive training and those with basic computer skills such as knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets and email.
Earlier this week, transition coach and working lives expert John Lees stated that employment candidates looking for sales jobs should rethink their job hunting strategy to ensure they get back into work quickly.
He added that people should not apply for jobs in a panic and must take time to remove any bitterness regarding their feelings about their previous role before attending job interviews.
