Leaner, fitter job candidates may be in with a better chance of being offered a position in the current economic climate, it has been claimed.

Certified nutritional consultant and nutrition expert Robin De-Ivy Allen carried out a study indicating 68 per cent of people believe that a thinner person would be more likely to receive a job offer as opposed to an equally-qualified candidate who appeared less healthy.

She commented: "In this time of economic uncertainty and high unemployment, jobseekers must be willing to do all that they can to out shine the competition."

Ms De-Ivy Allen went on to say less healthy employees pose more of a potential risk in terms of compensation injuries, absenteeism and increased healthcare claims, while those who take care of themselves have more confidence, energy, clarity and focus.
