Marketing yourself 'is vital' in interviews

Being able to sell yourself as an attractive product and having a good knowledge of the company you are applying for at sales jobs interviews is vital advice from one expert.

Jeff Garber, who is co-founder of 360Jobinterview.com, told the Baltimore Sun that looking at yourself as a brand is especially important when applying for sales jobs in the current economic climate.

He told the newspaper: "Know how to market yourself...you're not competing against mediocre candidates. Everyone needs to up their game. Ask smart questions and show you have an interest in the company."

Other advice for sales jobs candidates included not rambling and staying on a specific point when answering questions, as well as not being negative about former employers.

Mr Garber said candidates need to prepare for the basic question "tell me about yourself?" as this can throw many potential applicants for sales jobs.

People taking phone interviews also need to prepare rigorously, according to Joyce Lain Kennedy, who wrote for the Tribune Media Services about her experiences when taking and conducting initial calls.
