Back to work initiatives 'should be welcomed'

A new initiative to help people get back into sales jobs should be welcomed, according to an industry expert.

Phil Flaxton, chief executive officer of Work Wise UK, said that previous proposals to encourage people back into sales jobs have led to a degree of cynicism as they have had very little success.

He added: "These schemes should be welcomed. I think there are still opportunities out there, particularly in the SME sector because there are a lot of small businesses who are struggling right now to cope during the recession."

Mr Flaxton commented that the subject of getting people into sales jobs when they have been unemployed for a long period of time was a "thorny" one.

His comments come after an announcement from the Department for Work and Pensions which said that those on long-term benefits may be required to undergo work trials and work experience as part of a major expansion of sales job support and welfare reforms.
