Online recruitment 'improving'

Online recruitment in Europe rose last month, according to the latest figures released by Monster.

Research by the group found an increase in the uptake of leisure and marketing jobs, which saw the company's recruitment index rise by one point.

Vacancies fell by 32 per cent year-on-year, the lowest annual rate of deterioration since February 2009.

Hugo Sellert, head of economic research at Monster Worldwide, commented: "The index has remained fairly stable over the past four months which suggest the decline in job vacancies has reached a bottom, a positive development as we move into 2010. Growth trends are already being seen in Sweden and the UK."

He added that other European countries may soon replicate the growth shown by Sweden and the UK.

The findings follow the release of the Manpower Employment Outlook survey which found that UK employers' hiring intentions have risen from minus five per cent in the first quarter of 2009 to zero for the first three months of 2010.
