Sales recruitment success seen in November

The number of people appointed to permanent and temporary positions throughout November continued its upward trend.

It was the strongest expansion in permanent staff placements for 28 months and the fastest in permanent staffing positions in 19 months.

This was underpinned by an accelerated rise in job vacancies during November, while permanent staff salaries also rose for the first time in 15 months, albeit only modestly.

Those who have recently been successful in sales recruitment for temporary or contract work saw their salaries fall, although this was the weakest drop in the last 14 months of decline.

Kevin Green, chief executive of the Recruitment and Employment Confederation, said: "This is very positive news, November figures show the fastest rise in permanent jobs for 28 months. Employers in nearly all sectors are lifting recruitment freezes and starting to hire again."

UK consumer confidence also remained near its highest level in the past 18 months, with Nationwide's index holding steady at 73 points, the same level as October. This compares with a low of 45 in January.
