Interview for sales jobs could be done over webcam

People hoping for sales recruitment success might have to get used to a new trend - interviewing via a webcam.

Paula Ebben, writing for news portal wbztv.com, said that many firms are trying to cut expenses by carrying out their recruitment processes in a virtual environment.

Giving advice to sales recruitment hopefuls, Jeff Garber, a spokesperson for 360jobinterview.com, said that people should get comfortable with using a webcam and they should also practice with a friend prior to doing the real thing.

"Make sure the background is clear and uncluttered. Don't have a messy bookcase in the background, or a kitchen that is full of pots and pans," he added.

Mr Garber also said that noise distractions should also be ruled out by the interviewee, so hiding away a barking dog or a baby would be beneficial.

Sales recruitment hopefuls should also dress professionally, with Mr Garber revealing one case where an interviewee had to stand up to reach something when all they were wearing was their boxer shorts.

In the same way that eye contact is important in a normal interview situation, job hunters should make sure that they look into the camera when speaking and avoid a wandering eye scenario.
