Sales recruitment searches up as people return to work

The number of people looking for a sales recruitment opportunity on their first day at work in 2010 shot up, according to new research.

Data from job website Working.com said that it is normal to see a spike in the number of searches which are done just after midday on the first working day of the new year.

Derek Mah, general manager of online classifieds and retail at Canwest Global Communications Corporation, said that usually it's the first Monday when people get back to work after the holiday that people are looking for sales recruitment opportunities on.

"On average, it's about a 64 to 70 per cent spike in searches on Working.com. It usually holds its momentum until about mid-week and then it kind of tapers off near the end," he added.

Mr Mah added that the surge is often caused by New Year resolutions to locate better employment or to finally go for that dream job.

Sue Bartucca, writing for The Risk Collective, a website for women wanting to change their lives, said that if people are unhappy in their career then now is a good time to start afresh.
