London Gateway to create thousands of jobs
A new deep-sea port and logistic spark in London will create 36,000 jobs in the next few years.
The London Gateway project was officially launched by prime minister Gordon Brown and business secretary Lord Madelson, in a move which could create sales jobs.
An independent survey by DP World, an operator of ports worldwide, has predicted that 36,00 jobs will be created in total, including 12,000 in the short-term, which may include sales jobs.
Lord Mandelson added: "Developing our infrastructure will underpin the steps the government is already taking to stimulate the economy, and will lay the foundations for further advances in the future."
The development will create the largest facility of its kind in Europe across a 1,500-acre site.
It aims to cut road haulage costs and CO2 emissions and will overhaul the logistics industry in the UK, with ministers hoping that it will also welcome businesses to the country.
The Recruitment and Employment Confederation recently said that the UK job market is currently accelerating, leading to more sales jobs opportunities.
