'Enthusiasm is key' when doing phone interviews

Sales recruitment hopefuls might find that phone interviews are becoming more common, with certain techniques needing to be applied to help ensure success.

Annie Stevens, a managing partner at coaching firm ClearRock, told CNN.com that people need to prepared right from the start of the conversation to make the most out of the limited time that they have.

"The first five minutes of a phone interview are the most important, since only about two out of ten people will still be under consideration beyond that," she added.

Ms Stevens said that those going for sales recruitment opportunities need to be enthusiastic when they are in a phone interview, with some people finding it helps to smile while they are talking.

They should also have a list of questions prepared to show that they are really interested in the company and the job, while the style and use of jargon should mirror that which the interviewer uses.

Alison Green, author of Managing to Change the World, said that preparing properly for a phone interview takes a lot of stress out of the experience, leaving people to feel more confident or even excited.
