Motivation 'is key for those in sales jobs'

Those looking at sales jobs are often motivated by a bedrock belief in the quality of the product they are selling and its value, an expert has claimed.

David Chittock, president of Incentra, has told Sales and Marketing that he believes the money focus many of those in sales jobs have is not due to simple greed but the rough and tumble elements of the profession.

He said: "Sales is the front lines of capitalism. Help your team develop a love for the sales profession and a passion for the meaning of what they do."

The key things that people need to do in order to create sales motivation is to get involved in other sales' people's lives and to understand what they are trying to achieve and the values they operate with.

Sales jobs applicants could soon be in line to benefit from the right to request training, which will come into force from April 2011.

This will require companies to seriously consider whether to grant workers time off for relevant training.
