Budget 'could lead to rise in SME hiring'

The number of sales jobs available from small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) could increase in the wake of today's Emergency Budget.

The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has welcomed proposals to exempt small businesses from national insurance contributions but has called for this to be extended to all companies with the capacity to hire new employees.

It has also highlighted changes to the Small Companies Tax Rate that could see 850,000 small organisations paying tax at 20 per cent, making it easier for them to operate.

John Walker, the national chairman of the FSB, claimed that the announced measures will also go some way towards tackling the deficit.

He added: "We need to see a full reversal of NICs increases to fully offset the ‘tax on jobs' which the previous administration initiated."
